Comment: Our roof popped a leak so it was time. The tile roof was 32 years old so we went for the entire lift of all the tiles to install new underlayment and thermoshield as we cant add more insulation in the tiny attic space.Solar was installed at the same time. R&L listened to us about system size, panel placement so production is as expected when expected.R&L staff kept a tidy work space cleaning at the end of the day along with a magnetic sweep to catch nails that escaped.

Comment: I am so thankful we chose Raneri and Long for our roofing and solar project. We had at least 8 different consultations with various companies and Raneri was our last one. I already had my mind made up on proceeding with another company before they came out but our consultant James changed that decision very quickly.Anyone who is in the market for solar knows how pushy the sales reps can be and how many of them tell you different things. They tell you whatever you want to hear just to get you to sign a contract. James was the first person out of all the pitches we had been given that I felt was 100% honest and upfront with us. No smoke and mirrors, just honest hard facts. He was kind, respectful and was available ANY time I had questions or needed help throughout the entire process. We also were concerned about our roof and had been getting mixed reviews on whether or not it needed to be replaced. James got on the roof to check things out, contacted Dave, the owner, sent him pictures and got his opinion on what we needed to do.When it came time for the project to begin the crew showed up right on time and immediately got to work. Our entire old roof (double shingled) was torn off by midday. The second half of the day they replaced 6 pieces of plywood and installed our water barrier before leaving for the weekend. The crew was very fast, efficient, respectful of our property, and cleaned up after themselves. The new roof, upgraded attic ventilation and the solar panel mounts were installed in less than 2 days. The crew that put the solar panels and hooked them up were here for one day. Start to finish was 2.5 weeks from tear off, to receiving our PTO from SDG&E.As I type this review my neighbors across the street are having their roof torn off. I am absolutely baffled at the difference in our experience versus what I am witnessing going on over there. I cannot say this loudly or clearly enough, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL! It is worth the money and quality matters.Thank you Raneri and Long for making this experience such a positive and painless process for our family. You have earned yourselves a customer for life.

Comment: Excellent company! Weve had solar panels for 8 years, and needed a new roof. Got 3 other quotes. David Valdivia came out and gave us a reasonable price; especially since they needed to remove and reinstall the solar panels. Everyone that we were in contact with in the office and on the job site as well as on the final day for some small adjustments were very nice to work with! Thank you again!

Comment: I just replaced my current roof tiles for new roof tiles for my house. Their workers are very professional and did an excellent job. I had a few extra requests which they had no problem accommodating with. Their service team is very well organized and provided quick responses and overall had great customer service. I manage multiple rental houses and will consider this company first when I decide to replace the roof tiles on those houses.

Comment: Took 2 months to get an appointment, then they no showed, no called. When I called, person did not seem to care, nor were they concerned I was going elsewhere. Its sad because 4 years they did a great job on my roof and skylights.Update: The yelp review got a good response. Sometimes people fall through the cracks and as a business owner myself, I know it happens. Owner called almost immediately, job was completed today with no animosity. They are great people that do a great job. I do recommend them!!

Comment: Dave and team are amazing. Professional and ready to teach without pushing. True contractor values with no invoices or progress payments until complete. They did an awesome job with a new roof, thermo insulating sheet, 50 year GAF shingles, solar and rain gutters. They even helped us narrow our color choice by giving us a few addresses in each of the 4 colors we were debating. The only estimate and crew that did their own tear off! We had a small misunderstanding on the conduit and solar equipment panels, they moved everything and kept all the conduit out of sight and off our roof!

Comment: Got bids from three roofers recommended by people on a neighborhood app. While all were comparable - we chose Raneri and Long because its a family-owned company thats been around since the 1980s - and - it had the best policies and attitude about providing great service.Dave Hancock is the boss - and his grown kids, extended family and trusted crews run the show. Chatting with his workers - we learned most have been on board forever - so not a lot of turnover here, nice to see.SIX THINGS WE DISCOVERED:1) They WONT accept money up-front. No deposits. That was a first. If you pay up front - youve lost control. I think they know that - which is why its policy puts customers at ease. We didnt pay until the job was done.2) No sub-contractors. A big deal because its common for contractors to sub out their work to specialists with whom you have NO leverage. But R&L is an all-in-one biz that only does what it knows, i.e., roofing, solar, windows and gutters and a few other things. They dont do paint but they know who can. They dont hit you with stuff you wont need.3) These guys are big about what they call, trust and verify - so that common issues like dry rot which causes leaks - you dont take their word for it. They brought down three rotted panels for us to inspect. BTW, you should expect dry rot because its usually the main cause of leaks.4) These guys arent hired hands for spot jobs. Theyre on the payroll, some for many years. They show up in big red trucks and vans - wearing red logo t-shirts. Shout out to Hector, Jesus, Carlos on-site and Emely and Perla at Mission Control. Cant remember all the names we dealt with, sorry, but they were all A+ - and it felt like everyone on-site was in charge.5) They gave us an estimate that was gold. Potential over-runs for dry rot, replacing panels and fascia - were detailed up front down to the linear foot - which INCLUDED materials AND labor. This is key because R&L does NOT use the term, man-hours like others - which can lead to sticker shock based on worker head counts.6) They called and emailed us at the end of EACH WORK DAY - to update what they did - and what they were going to do the next day. (Ours was a five-day job.) There was no mess nor stray garbage left behind.LESSONS LEARNED:* The cost for new tile - is only marginally higher than re-using old tile. Because our home is more than 20 years old, we went for the new tile. On the first day, ten people came out at 730a and put tarps around our house and in our garage. By 2p, they had taken out about 2200 square feet of old and dirty tile. Days 2-3 involved ripping out and pounding in new boards, adding water-tight layers of black synthetic underlayment on top - (and not the old felt stuff made of tar) - and installed new tile. Days 4-5 were all about installing more new tile - and we saw a lot of precision sawing to make everything fit perfect. Bonus day 6 was us deciding at the last minute to replace a few dingy gutters.* Turns out this company has a lot of videos which break down what they do and why. DO look at them. Browse other reviews - and youll notice how Dave Hancock and his family ALWAYS respond, esp. to issues that come up because no two roofs are alike. For me - (vs. my wife, who just loved Daves old school manner) - R&Ls desire to address problems publicly - sealed the deal. Its serious about protecting its brand - and plans to be around forever.* Our roof is done and its spectacular. Great service and clean-up - as if they were never here. A lot of good roofers are out there - but we chose one that felt like an experienced surgeon - with calm and caring manners. They will work with you on ANYTHING. They did for us - and we now have peace of mind - with NO uncertainty about what lies ahead.

Comment: From the roof to solar, gutters to patio cover, we have been very pleased with their work and professionalism. They worked closely with my stucco contractor and were always on time and ready. They asked for feedback and all changes were made to 100% satisfaction. They even gave me an awesome referral for my A/C unit and helped work out a payment plan for my patio cover. Amazing company that I would refer to anyone.

Comment: I had a big leak in the garage of my 1997 Eastlake home coming from somewhere near the second story house structure junction. I stopped in to the office off Los Coches Rd and Olde Hwy 80 on a lunch break and set up an estimate. After receiving a fair quote, and compairing the estimate with a couple other companies, the professionalism, cleanliness, and good moral focus of Raneri and Long got my business.I am so glad I chose Raneri and Long!!The work was done quickly, on budget, and after almost two years with plenty of heavy rain no leaks!!!I certainly will recommend Raneri and Long for your roofing repair!!!Thanks Guy . Making America Great again!

Comment: Dave is simply amazing!! Super knowledgeable and willing to go out of his way to help his customers. I am in the process of purchasing a home and I needed a fast roof inspection due to concerns brought up by the home inspector. I called a couple places to try to schedule estimates for repairs and upon calling Raneri and Long Roofing I was very impressed with Dave. He not only told me what I needed, he gave me a bit of history of the location of the homes and was willing to go out that same day to inspect the property and get me a full report by the end of the day. Cannot express my gratitude enough. Anybody looking for an honest roofing contractor do not hesitate to call Dave, will not be disappointed.

Comment: I dont remember how I found Raneri and Long 17 years ago when I needed a new roof, but I do remember how happy I was with the job.Ive never had a problem since, and Ive always remembered who did the work. When I recently had some equipment installed on my roof (by someone else, if I had known Raneri and Long did this kind of work Id have gone straight to them) I got very concerned about the level of competence of the installers - I was concerned that Id have roof leaks when rain returns to San Diego. And I had a few other questions about my roof - normal wear and tear, etc. since its been 17 years...I called Raneri and Long because I remembered the name. I figured the business would have changed since my last experience, but I didnt know anyone else I had reason to trust about roofs. Dave Hancock, owner of the company, answered the phone, talked with me for a while, and agreed to come out the following Monday. He came out himself and we sort of still recognized each other, and he walked all around my roof telling me exactly what I needed to know in response to all my questions.Dave still has the same easy, friendly, absolutely professional manner he had when we first met - and though I dont need any work done now (and I know that because he told me - and Id have believed anything he said), I absolutely know that when I do need some work done Im going straight back to Raneri and Long.I dont think theyre more expensive than others, but even if they were Id gladly pay it because what I want from my roof is peace of mind - I dont want to sit listening to rain and wondering whether theres water dripping into my attic. And few contractors work as efficiently (my neighbor has been getting his roof re-shingled ...for the past five weeks) or as cleanly as Raneri and Long.If youre looking for an honest, hard working, straight shooting family business who knows all there is to know about what they do, stop here. Youve found it!
