Comment: I am very happy with Citadel. Their estimated re-roofing and solar panel installation quote was about five thousand dollars less than their major competitor and was not a hard sell. When a permitting issue rose up, the company successfully negotiated with my town in order to save me several thousand dollars. They kept me informed throughout the project and finished everything when they said they would. They suggested how I could save a great deal of money by installing rain gutter mesh on my own. Because they were prompt about completing the paperwork with PG&E, I was able to qualify for the NEM2 reimbursement rates before they were superseded by the NEM3 rates. Finally, they did a thorough job of cleaning up debris from the re-roofing.

Comment: I chose Citadel roofing and solar after reviewing several solar quotes from various sources. After signing the contract I was assigned with a project manager (Megan) who kept me up to date with the progress and ETAs through out the project.In comparison to others within my community who went with other vendors and had their contracts signed before me, my project moved ahead at a stead pace much faster and also finished a lot ahead of the rest of them.Citadel was able to work with my citys officials/inspectors quickly to get inspection appointments and re-appointments to get through the necessary inspections/clearances.PGE was able to provide me the Permit To Operate within a week of application - which was pretty fast considering the huge rush at this point of time.Overall it took about 4 months from the time of contract signing to Permit to Operate, longer than the initial estimate but this was during the peak time when many homes were trying to get into NEM 2.0.All the ground workers/installers were Citadel employees (unlike other projects/vendors who hire contractors) and were professional & courteous, shout out to them as they are the ones who did the job on the ground.Would definitely recommend Citadel Roofing and Solar.People I worked with: Chris from Sales, Megan and Brandi the project managers.

Comment: I had Citadel RS expand my solar system just prior to the PG&E change to NEM v3.0. Obviously, timing was critical to ensure that the expansion didnt jeopardize my grandfathered NEM v2.0 agreement. Citadel RS came through with flying colors. Holly Mello was my project PM and she kept me updated throughout the process, as well as answered all of my questions. When PG&E was delayed in providing permission to operate, Holly proactively made sure I knew that my project qualified for keeping NEM v2.0. The installation went very smoothly and the installers were very professional and cleaned up thoroughly after installation. I was very satisfied with Citadel RS and I would recommend them to anyone seeking a solar installation.

They are knowledgeable, arrive at scheduled time, courteous and great about follow up information when the service is complete. Bernice responds very promptly to emails, and arranges for the technicians to come out. Our first experience was in June to replace 3 micro inverters. this is on a system that they did not install but due to retirement of the installer we were needing help! Eric was the first technician and this past week TJ was here to resolve a connection issue. They both provided excellent service. We are so pleased and happy to know we have found a business that provides this high quality service!

I was having issues connecting my solar panels to the app. So I called Citadel and they had someone at my house within two hours. He said he couldn’t fix it all on the spot, but it said he would be able to do it remotely so he went home to work on it. And it was up and running within 2 hours after he left. He then text me explaining what was wrong and how he fixed it. Thank you again for all your help!

Comment: I did my homework and shopped around and on paper Citadel seemed to be the best option. From an execution standpoint, they have missed every step of the way. There were delays, there was communication misses between their sales and ops groups, and now my roof leaks every time it rains. I recommended Citadel to my in laws and friends and unfortunately, they are all having issues as well. Citadel has been incredibly slow to resolve any issue and am afraid that they have caused far more costs than they savings I was expecting to have through solar. I trusted this company because they had a history of being experts in roofing, but have missed there as well and cant repair our roof. There are many good solar installers out there and Citadel is not one of them.UPDATE: 11/8/22 First big storm of the season and my roof is once again leaking after the problem was addressed. Also, the only time real action was taken was when I wrote the negative review. I have spent more time, energy, and money on this project than I could have possibly imagined and am still left with a leaking roof.***Update: 5/25/22 Citadel continued to work with me and address the issues. Meghan Kelly Perez on the Citadel team was a great resource and wouldnt quit until I was satisfied. After lots of work and communication, we got to a good place and now my roof and solar are working well. Fingers crossed that continues.

Comment: A few years ago, we contracted with Zenernet for a solar panel installation. After over a year of delays, Zenernet claimed bankruptcy. We were left high and dry with an inoperable, incomplete system.Another homeowner in the same situation recommended Citadel Roofing & Solar of Vacaville.I contacted Bernice Yoder of Citadel and she could not have been more helpful. We gave her access to Enphase monitoring and she then troubleshot our system over the phone. After she got us turned on and generating, we discovered that one of the micro converters was not functioning. After having a new part delivered to our house, Bernice dispatched a tech to our house and he replaced the part in less than 30 minutes under warranty.The main reason I recommend Bernice and Citadel very highly is because of their response to my initial call. Previously, I had called numerous solar companies and they had no interest in assisting with some other company’s unfinished project. I’m sure others of you have experienced this as well. Bernice was eager to help from the get go, and was very responsive every inch of the way.

After having Citadel Roofing & Solar (CRS) handle the battery back-up project for my solar system, it was clear I should have had them do everything.CRS was extremely professional and patient. I say patient because PG&E had to replace the transformer on my street before they could begin their work. My project was delayed for over a year before they could get started. Once they began they were quick to finish. The final product is beautiful.I was fortunate to qualify for PG&E’s SGIP funding. The coordination and paperwork involved in that program was very complex. Tiffanie‘s knowledge of the program made that process remarkably smooth. I didn’t have to worry about a thing. All I had to do is wait for my reimbursement check from PG&E.Christopher Blank, Holly Mello, and Tiffanie Gulley of CRS are an outstanding team. I can’t thank them enough.

The field team was right on schedule and cared absolutely about quality and finished work. Comment: When we started our solar research, we reached out to 4 different companies. Two big solar names and two others that were referred by friends. We were least impressed with the two big name companies as they handed us off to high-pressure sales agents that bid on systems that werent optimum for our house size, so they appeared less expensive. Once we asked to compare same size systems, their bids came in much higher than what they originally proposed.We selected Citadel Roofing & Solar and are extremely happy with that decision. Their sales rep Jim was awesome, super friendly, no pressure and extremely honest and knowledgeable. He came back multiple times, just because we had more questions or needed clarity as this was our first experience with solar. The roof layout of our 3800sf home was not so simple to work with due to all the peaks and valleys that it contains. Jim and Citadel put together a perfect system that included 28 REC panels, Enphase microinverters and two Tesla batteries. The batteries were something we really wanted, not something they pressured us to add. We were also impressed to see that many of the newly built high-end homes in our area use Citadel for their solar installs as well... to us that says a lot.Once we signed our contract and got handed to the team they were also amazing. Holly was our project manager. She was always available to answer our questions and stayed in constant communication as we went through the process. She handled everything from scheduling installation to the permitting, inspections, and coordinating the permission to operate with PG&E. It was nice to have one point-of-contact and Holly was always so kind and quick to respond.The installation was smooth and efficient. Jim came by several times during the install to ensure everything was proceeding smoothly. Ours was a little more complex as we opted for a whole house back-up, and we did not want unsightly conduit running all over the exterior of the house. Lam and his team put together a design that ran underneath in our crawl space from the new panel to the batteries and then one nice run up to the roof. They even painted it to match our exterior paint color. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure everything was aesthetically pleasing and done to perfection.The final result is a very clean looking, impressive product that we are extremely happy with. The phone app is also user friendly and fun to watch and see our energy production and consumption and how little we now rely on the grid. We owe a huge thank you to Citadel and their entire team. They are all true professionals, and we give them the highest recommendation. You do not see this kind of service too often. If we could give them 10 stars, we would!!!

Comment: Had a Solar installed with Citadel 3 months back. I was skeptical about the company since the company is not in the bay area. I saw a few good recent reviews so I decided to take a chance. I talked to Megan and shared my concerns about the fact that they are not a local company and a few not so good reviews a few years back. Understand my concerns, she kept me in the loop on the status and response quickly when I have questions. Once I signed the contract, the assigned a person to survey my roof location, sent the design for approval, and have a troop to install the Solar in a day. The city inspection came out 1 month and half later w/o any issue. Permission to Operate (PTO) from PG&E is about two weeks. Now I am utilizing my Solar! It is a long process from the beginning to the end (4 months). Thank you, Megan for keeping your words! It is a pleasant working with you and the Citadel team.

I was not disappointed! The Installers were in and out in 2 days and Megan White, my project coordinator, was on top of the process and kept me informed the whole way. We live in the country and use a great deal of electricity (wells, landscape watering and A/C in the summer, and got tired of $700-plus utility bills in the summer. Comment: When we bought our 2nd home a solar sales person came to our door and sold us on Solar, 5 years later when we tried to sell the house it was awful. Citadel Solar has helped my Father-in-law with his solar and offered to help us with showing the potential buyers why having solar was a good idea. Since that system was through another provider, they got nothing out of it other than good-will. Fast forward a few months and were ready to put solar on the house we bought. Shopped around a bit and found that the pricing from Citadel was better than other companies. Not only was the price actually lower, it included better panels. Throughout the entire process our project manager was readily available for any questions, regularly communicated on the status, and generally over-communicated in the best possible way. Right around the time I was wondering what was going on Id check my email and there would already be an email updating me. The installers were very pleasant to interact with, the work they did was quality. It was as painless a process as possible and I am happy to recommend the crew at Citadel to anyone looking to add, or expand, their Photovoltaic system.

I called Citadel, and they first replaced a enphase micro-inverter. That did not take care of the underperformance, and so they installed a brand new panel and micro-inverter. Tyler (know as TJ) was excellent in his work and follow up. I have had different solar systems on two different homes, and I think Citadel is top notch!

Their staff stayed involved with me during and after the project was completed to make sure I filed for and received all of the Rebate and Tax write-off money I was entitled to. I got all of it thanks to them. The system they installed for me works terrific. I worked with Eric Andresen in Sales there all the way through the process. He is incredibly knowledgeable about Solar systems, Battery backups, and the systems Citadel installs. He has continued to reach out to me to make sure my System is working well 2 years later. The icing on the cake was today, Labor Day, during a current power outage we are having. I touched base with Erik with some questions on how my System was performing with the power outage. He called me right back and spent an hour with me on his holiday day off to make sure my System was performing optimally!! Answered all of my questions, and accessed my system remotely so he could see in real time what I was seeing. He gave me some great tips and insights into a couple of things I can do to optimize my System’s performance during Power Outages. Since Citadel already installed our first system and was familiar with our roof/home, we thought we would have Citadel install the 2nd system/battery. From the sales through the rebate process, we had a great experience with them. They are very communicative and responsive to any questions/concerns. We had a few items post installation that needed follow up and I very impressed that they sent technicians usually the following day to fix the issue. Citadel also took care of the PG&E battery cash rebate process – from filing the paperwork to following up with PG&E, we were very thankful to have Citadel guide us through the process. Comment: Honestly, I put this off forever, and I was dreading this because of all the horror stories I had heard. My first experience with another company was terrible, and they broke tiles on my roof during the inspection. But a friend recommended Citadel, and once I talked with Kevin Babcock, I was so glad I went with them! Kevin answered all my questions (on several occasions!), and he and Ashley Donald worked hard to qualify me for two Tesla batteries through a grant program from PG&E. They helped me with the financing and everything. Now I have a system that has the best rated panels, and two backup batteries, and I couldnt be happier! Would highly recommend them, they treated me and my home with respect. Very happy with my choice.

Comment: These guys are total professionals. I am extremely happy with how the entire process went from start to finish. Eric Andresen was my Sales Rep and he did an amazing job setting it all up. Ticia Sauceda was my Project Coordinator throughout the entire project. She was excellent, and checked in with me every week to let me know how things were going. I got Solar and a Tesla Battery installed as well. The two guys who came to do the installation were excellent, they did a fantastic job, and were very professional. It all looks and works amazing! The entire project was certified by the Napa City Inspector and PG&E without any problems. The work is excellent. I now have two Apps on my phone so I can monitor my Solar System, my Battery, and my Usage levels at all times. Very cool, and very useful to me and my family. This company stands behind their work, and they do an excellent job. I could not be happier with how this project went or the outcome. Comment: Overall I can strongly recommend Citadel. They were by far the best price I got (and I met with several local solar companies as you should before signing a contract). We went into contract in early May 2020. COVID presented a few challenges for us, and probably was the main cause of us not getting an install until late July. However, the install was almost flawless with a truly professional crew. Simply cannot praise them enough. They did an amazing job with hiding the conduit so it was entirely invisible. The panels are low rise (see photo) and while I expected the panels to be more imposing you really dont know they are there. Also, as a roofing company, they understood how to deal with a cement tile roof installation.We went with their recommended panels (REC) 320 watt even though most installers are selling 350 watt panels now. 320 watt are sort of last years model but we had room for additional panels and going with the 320 watt panels saved money. If you are getting high quotes for 350 watt panel installation this is a possible alternative for you.I will say I considered holding back one star because of the project management process. Our sales contact Gideon was terrific, but the handoff to project management had a few bumps. It seems like their project managers are stretched thin, and as a result we did not get the attention we should have during the long wait between contract execution and installation. While that was frustrating at times it was not a dealbreaker. In the end our project manager rebounded and managed the permit process and installation coordination well so he earned back that last star. He was easy to work with but would have benefited from a little more supervision? As I said not a dealbreaker just an area for improvement for Citadel to take note.Our first bill post-solar full month bill is is due in September but the system has been cranking since day one. You can feel comfortable going with Citadel for this investment! We are very pleased with this job.PROS: Very competitive price; very professional company with excellent installation; good customer support (so far); smooth installation process with highly qualified installers; honest; fairCONS: Some lag time after contract execution; project support lagged at times prior to installation.PROJECT: 23 solar panels with a main panel upgrade. 7.36kW system. Enphase IQ7 inverters. REC320NP solar panels.COST: $23,000 +/- including main panel upgrade.EXPECTED TAX CREDIT: $6,000. Net cost $17,000 +/-.

Comment: I previously had Citadel put a new roof on my house in Berkeley in preparation for selling in 2018. I had installed solar on that house in 2002 (the early days). I chose Citadel because they did both solar and roofing and the solar panels needed to be removed and replaced after the new roof was installed. They did an excellent job.After my move to Lafayette I wanted to install solar panels on my new house. Once again I chose Citadel because of my previous excellent experience. They did an excellent job in planning the installation, installing and getting me up and running. I highly recommend them.I now look forward to monitoring my progress using the Solar Edge app on my phone and anticipating the PG&E savings accumulating each month.

Comment: The entire process was yes a learning experience but whenever there was some sort of pitfall Chris and the other staff were there to fix it. The installation team came out and had to rappel down our high pitched roof but they completed the job in a few days. Excellent craftsmanship by the the installers. I love looking at my PG&E bill every month and see how much more electricity I generate than I use. I highly recommend Citadel.

Comment: Updated Post Sept 2019: It has now been a year and I can now report the one year result of my Citadel solar system. Simply put, I could not be more delighted and thankful. My total electric cost for the past 12 months was $157. That includes NEM true-up and delivery costs and compares to my prior 12 months electric cost of $4,133. Thats a $3,976 savings!! This system will pay for itself even faster than my estimate upon purchase. And even better, no issues. A reason I used Citadel was because they were a roofing expert first. After hearing all the horror stories of roof leaks from friends and others, I wanted to avoid any roofing issues. Citadel performed and two of our friends have since used them as well. Right after this past rain storm hit We noticed a horrible leak coming into master closet upstairs I called a few companies and Citadel was the most prompt. After deciding to go with them our rep Kevin Babcock ( who is absolutely fabulous) said he would have a guy come out inspect the roof for measurements and he ended up staying and fixing the leak. Kevin was so prompt with everything. Made sure we fully understood everything about our estimate. Definitely was an open book 😊, which we appreciated so much. Needless to say they will be out this Monday to start the roof and the week after to start our solar. This is the best customer service I have had the pleasure of dealing with. Our roof is of very unique construction, but Citadel worked with us to get a design for both the solar and roof that we are 100% satisfied with. The installation itself was unexciting - the best kind! Two members of our congregation also had Citadel do their solar based on the great job Citadel did for the church. Citadel Roofing and Solar fit the bill. The Citadel team was professional and did all the work in-house with no-subcontracting. During the install I spoke with several employees: salesman, installers, project manager, electrician and coordinators I was impressed that they all loved Citadel and spoke highly of how well they are treated! (A huge Compliment the the management and ownership!!) We have and aging ultralight weight tile roof and Citadel installed a 15.9Kw Solar System this March. Their work was very detailed and well planned out. Just plain excellent work. The install went great, even though it rained almost every day. Comment: As an electrical engineer, I’ve been interested in solar for a long time. Ive seen some of the recent advancements that have taken place in the technologies, so that got me even more interested. After meeting with John Moberg from Citadel Roofing and Solar at a small event with one of my neighbors across the street, I was shown some of the hardware that would be installed on a tile roof. My only objection to solar at this point was that I had a tile roof, and I didn’t think a tile roof would lend itself to having solar panels installed. Seeing the gear that would be installed on my tile roof, made up my mind. Working with John at Citadel made it easy. He answered every question I had. He took the time to explain the background of the company and the technology. He made it a very easy process for me and I felt completely at ease working with John.My experience with Citadel has been terrific. I’ve had no problems at all.
